Q. Will covertogs be ok in chlorinated pools?

 A. The fabrics we use for covertogs are chlorine resistant.  That doesn't mean they are chlorine proof, but with the right care, they will last much longer than most swimwear that contains elastane.  Elastane is the stretchy fibre that gives the fabric its stretch and its these fibres that chlorine breaks/destroys - especially if your swimwear is not rinsed out with fresh clean water immediately after your swim.

Q. What does UPF 50+ mean?

 A. The UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is a numerical rating given to clothing to indicate how effectively the fabric blocks ultraviolet (UV) radiation. A UPF rating of 25 means that only 1/25th (or 4%) of the UV radiation can penetrate the fabric. Unlike SPF, which only expresses a sunscreens protective value in terms of limited wavelengths of light, UPF applies to a range of broad spectrum UVA and UVB radiation. The highest UPF rating a garment can be assigned is 50+. A piece in this range is determined as providing “excellent” protection from UV radiation. You can read more about this on my blog here

Q. Why are covertogs more expensive than some other swimwear?

A. Most of the fabrics we use are imported from Italy via Australia. This makes the fabric more costly than (say) fabric sourced from our closer Asian neighbours.  Also, covertogs are manufactured here in NZ,  a much higher wage economy than (say) China so our costs of production are higher than in lower wage economies.

We are committed to supporting our local industries as much as possible so we design covertogs in New Zealand, cut the patterns here in New Zealand and have them made up here in New Zealand. Although this adds costs to the finished garments, we believe that the quality of the styling, fabric and manufacturing processes we use all add value to the product and if looked after with care, will last many years of use.  We believe in 'slow fashion' so that although the purchase price might be higher than other swimwear options, your covertogs will last better than most other options, and will not be thrown away or worn out after just one season of use.
